About

At Capital Area Peer Services (CAPS), we believe that people who have experienced mental health challenges have the knowledge, strength, and ability to help one another recover and thrive. We are a peer-run nonprofit organization serving adults in New York's Capital Region, providing welcoming spaces, meaningful connections, and practical resources that promote mental health recovery, independence, and self-empowerment.

Through our Vince Pagano Consumer Drop-In Center in Albany, we offer a supportive community where members can receive hot meals, participate in peer support groups, enjoy social activities, access clothing and household goods, and receive assistance understanding benefits and community resources. Our goal is to reduce isolation and help people build confidence, friendships, and a greater sense of belonging.

We also operate CARELine, a confidential peer-run telephone support service for people who need someone to talk to during difficult moments. Our trained peers provide compassionate listening, encouragement, problem-solving support, and information about helpful community programs. We understand the importance of speaking with someone who has experienced similar challenges.

Our services extend to peer advocacy for individuals receiving inpatient psychiatric treatment, helping them understand their options, communicate with treatment teams, and prepare for returning to the community. We also operate supportive housing services for eligible individuals who need a stable living environment and assistance developing independent living skills.

At CAPS, our mission is to promote dignity, safety, recovery, and community. We are committed to creating an environment where people feel respected, supported, and empowered to make informed decisions about their own lives.
