At Capital Roots, we believe everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy, affordable food and welcoming green spaces. Since 1975, we have worked to nourish communities throughout New York's Capital Region by improving food access, supporting local agriculture, providing nutrition education, and creating opportunities for individuals and families to grow their own food.
We operate community gardens, affordable mobile produce markets, the Good Food Market, and programs that bring fresh fruits and vegetables into neighborhoods where healthy food can be difficult to find. Through our Veggie Mobile and Good Food Market, we make nutritious, locally grown food more accessible, including to residents using SNAP/EBT and other eligible food benefits.
Our Community Gardens program helps residents grow fresh produce in shared neighborhood spaces, while our Squash Hunger initiative supplies locally grown fruits and vegetables to food pantries, shelters, and community organizations. We also provide youth education and job-readiness opportunities through our Produce Project, helping young people develop skills in agriculture, nutrition, entrepreneurship, and employment.
We serve communities across Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady, and southern Saratoga counties. Through education, partnerships, food distribution, and community involvement, we are building a healthier, greener Capital Region where nutritious food and opportunities to thrive are within everyone's reach.
