About

United Tenants of Albany (UTA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting tenants' rights and ensuring that individuals and families have access to safe, decent, and affordable housing. Since 1973, we have worked to prevent homelessness, improve housing conditions, and empower renters throughout Albany County and New York's Capital Region.

We provide emergency rental assistance, housing counseling, eviction court advocacy, landlord-tenant mediation, fair housing assistance, and education about tenants' legal rights. Our team helps individuals facing eviction, overdue rent, unsafe living conditions, housing discrimination, and other challenges that threaten their housing stability. We also support tenant associations and community organizing efforts to improve housing conditions and strengthen renter protections.

Through direct assistance, education, advocacy, and community partnerships, we help tenants understand their rights, navigate housing challenges, and take practical steps toward maintaining stable housing. We believe everyone deserves a safe place to call home, and we are committed to supporting those facing the greatest housing barriers.
